Recently I’ve taken a little free time to do some Senior Ball gown-inspiring research.  Having just received my $13 Wrapped Platform Buckle Boots from Hottopic.com, I decided to try an aggressive search method for styles of “buckle dress” on Google and Deviantart.  Maybe I could come up with something to match these hard-to-walk-in boots?

However, my efforts were entirely unsuccessful.  Where are all those buckle dresses out there in the world!?  I didn’t even get a picture of Lulu’s buckley dress from the Final Fantasy game which looks like this:

This is bad, but I actually thought she was kneeling at first glance.  Those anime characters have such long legs!

However, the one treasure I did find on Deviantart was a picture of a very cool (and explicit, sorry) outfit:

I do have a lineup of things waiting to be posted about.  They’re waiting, or unfinished, not-quite-dutifully being recorded as they are made… etc.  sadly, selfishly, too busy right now.

But I at least have to mention what I’ve stumbled across today as I try to brainstorm for my Costume Crafts final project proposal (due tomorrow )

This website blog collection just amazes me, that I found through a google image search for Steampunk:  Ullabenulla.

This amassage of craft projects and inspiration are a gold mine.  It’s like electricity overload and I don’t want to kill a fuse, but I do have to conjure up something ASAP that I want to make out of all these ideas.  The catch is it can’t be a costume or involve lots of sewing, they are strict about that.
Strictly craft oriented, like an accessory.   I just have to point out to you a few of these crazy art pieces that are out there!

Somethings out of this world

I can’t even break the surface of this person’s art collection, you just have to look at it yourself. Link

So this is what I’ve been doing all week!  It took my mom and I about 30 hours to put this Tokidoki mural up in my sister’s bedroom.

The world of Tokidoki is all about detail. ;)   Its designer is a talented italian artist who has produced an array of amazingly CUTE merchandises since 2005, including all sorts of accessories from shoes to shirts, stuffed animals, pillowcases, jewelry and the like. Check out the unofficial but highly informed Tokidoki-blog.com for a sample of the awesome designer items.  Me, my sister, and my mom all love it!

Many people know the brand best by their best-selling official Lesportsac bags produced from 2006 to 2008.  My mom fell in love with these bags last year and amassed a collection of them! o___o  Fortunately, the lady who runs Tokidoki-blog.com has done an amazing job of archiving every kind of Tokidoki for Lesportsac item that’s been made.  Since they’ve stopped producing official Lesportsac Tokidoki merch, the only way to find it is either through eBay or to get a fake version of the old print at your local Chinatown or swap meet.  The fake ones usuallygo for about $25 vs. the range of $100-350 for official bags.  :) I have to admit, a couple years ago I spent $250 on one for myself– the Hawaiian-style Spiaggia print. See a sample of it:

The main inspiration for the tree idea came from Legno’s Foresta print, see sample:

[ After a long week's worth of travels through the forests and the oceans, I return to continue my report of the magic of the Renaissance Faire. ]

Specifically– the costumes.  The fashion is impressive and I love it.  Medieval roleplayers don’t skimp on details in their clothing, and the feast of garments available from the costume vendors is a delight to browse.

I have to admit that I was a lot more interested in the women’s fashions than the men’s.  Here’s a manly top for sale (from Son of Sandlar I believe), and there are snapshots of other examples in my previous post.

Inspirational, steeply priced feminine bodices and skirts:

The details mesmerize me!

Most pieces are about $150.  A whole outfit could probabaly range from, say, $70 for an undershirt, $150 for corset, and $130 for the skirt, which is about $350.  Nice for someone with a steady income who can save up for that special costume!  Not so affordable for the college student on a tight budget…

Moresca’s

What’s the BEST shop at the Faire?  THIS ONE!

Blouses – Bodices – Arm Cuffs – Skirts – Sashes – Bloomers – Everything

Despite being really complicated garments, these are very inspiring. =]  I can’t imagine the work the designers have put in to crafting these intricate garments and their wide variety of styles.

This is the place I’d highly recommend for anyone looking to buy creative garb, both men’s and women’s. I don’t personally own a costume yet, but I’m looking forward to saving up!  Shopping in person is also much better than buying online, and I know Moresca’s is available at more locations than Tuxedo, NY in August.

But I do know their selection at the Ren Faire is bursting at the shop’s seams– they’ve got every color and size you could want and the fit has been impressive from what I’ve seen.  It may be expensive, but it’s really worth it. =)  Based on the quality of each handmade item I’m sure that Moresca’s work will last long through the wear and tear of many summer days, dusty trails, and LARPing fights.

Practically Speechless.

I would LOVE to know how to sew so intricately as this!

thanks karen for sharing the link ♥

Apparently, Gibbous is lived out by four skilled designers who reuse old scraps.  I’m sure their prices are largely based on the days it takes to compile their UNIQUE creations.  They don’t skip on any details!

Their blog has a myriad of delicious extras:

Even their sewing machine is painted!

Infinite Creativity

If I had the money and the time to dress like they do, daily….

I would proudly do it. =]
